Morocco has its share of big shows. The medina/market is "sweetened" for tourists. We can be honest about that. But the leather tanneries are the real deal. Even if the goods sold in the shop come from elsewhere - the process of curing and tanning hides is an easy AND authentic thing you can see in Fes. Just about every tour guide will include one of them on their tour. Or wander there with a smartphone. The tannery "guide" is a tannery employee - so if you just show up they will still show you the killer view from above.

Every large tannery tour exits through a gift shop. Don't worry. These are 1/1000th the pressure of the carpet salesmen who lock the door behind you.
